I believe Kuklinski did it for a while but it’s not a savvy way to go about your business these days. As for ordering drugs, the legal consequences vary a lot depending on the country’s jurisdiction. There’s also such a thing as a priority list in law enforcement, and they presumably care a lot more about murders than drug use, so one will draw much more attention than the other. Authorities say Online Killers Market claims to have 12,000 registered members worldwide and offers services including “hacking, kidnapping, extortion, disfigurement by acid attack, and sexual violence.”

Furthermore, interacting with dark web hitmen puts individuals at risk of being caught up in criminal investigations. Law enforcement agencies closely monitor the dark web, and anyone caught attempting to hire a hitman could face serious legal consequences.

Perhaps more worrying is that there seems to actually be a demand for this sort of site, judging by the reams of apparent messages and orders. The two CSV files from the leak are named orders.csv and msg.csv that contain 38 ‘hit’ orders and 2,682 personal messages to and from site administrators. The multi-faceted and intricate nature of this scam—from getting people to burn cars to paying critics to shut up—is unlike anything I’ve seen so far on the dark web. According to hacked messages, the people burning these cars were prospective “hitmen” who had hoped to become employed on the site. In one message from the dump, the admin writes that the site not only cheats people out of their bitcoin; it also provides information to law enforcement about ordered hits.
